Character Name: Virginia Lewis
Source: The 10th Kingdom, After escaping the swamp with her father and Wolf.
Genre: Modern Fantasy/comedy
Personality: Virginia Lewis was born to an unusual and mismatched couple. Her father was an enterprising plastic manufacturer and her mother an heiress. The two had a rocky romance which led to the tense environment in which Virginia grew up. She learned at a young age to stay quiet and not open up about her feelings. At the age of seven Virginia’s mother left them without a word, the abandonment hit the young girl hard and reinforced her already distant nature. Though Virginia finds it easy to be outwardly pleasant and friendly there is a distinct depth to her openness that she keeps in place for self-protection.
As many people who grow up in unstable situations do, Virginia sought something to control in her life and she discovered food was that thing. It wasn’t that she ate or had an issue eating; it was being able to express herself through cooking. This outlet became the main dream of her life and her eventual goal of opening her own restaurant. Cooking and serving food was a way to emotionally offer something without having to actually be overtly involved.
Her short time in the Kingdoms has changed her dramatically, with revelations on her childhood and the loss of her mother there was no way she would not be affected. While still standoffish she has at least begun to see the reason to let people in and begin to heal herself. Though it is difficult for her to trust people at face value her cynicism may be starting to crack a bit.
She is intelligent and resourceful (able to come up with costumes and songs at a moment’s notice, able to defend Wolf in court) she is discovering she has more value and strength that she had ever had a reason to think back in New York. Her adventures have forced her to face many of her fears and she’s come out stronger and more determined for it, or at least working toward that.
It is mentioned in canon more than once that she is generous to the point of being a soft touch; such generosity has been rewarded in various ways. The very start of her time in the kingdoms was due to her trying to help the Prince trapped in a dog’s body, though her father is negative about the entire thing she continued to be kind and giving in all but the darkest moments.
Virginia does tend to have a temper which is seemingly at odds with her better nature. Most of her scorn is directed at her father for her imagined slights in causing her mother to leave them. Long seated anger about being left caused a rift between the two that never fully mended at this point in canon. Like most children who are abandoned or orphaned Virginia has a bit of a chip on her shoulder about certain issues and tends to self-blame even if it is not at a conscious level.

No no no no no no no!
[Hello world, meet Virginia, she’s not happy to meet you; as evidenced by the frowning face that is filling up the screen at the moment.]
This isn’t New York and it isn’t the Kingdoms, I never saw anything like this there before. So where am I? Or better than that, how do I get back?
[Her head turned and the short brown hair was clearly mussed from her journey in the pod]
Dad? Wolf? Prince? Anybody? I did not ask to be separated again you damned fairies!
Prose Sample: Once upon a time she’d wanted a fairy tale life, that was until she saw what that really meant. Now all she wanted was to go back home where things were normal, she thought they were about to do that but her life got sidetracked again and she would up here, in Genessia.
It wasn’t a bad place, as far as she could tell it was fairly normal compared to the Kingdoms, but it wasn’t home. It would never be home because now she realized people made a place home not its location. But then again now knowing her mother was an evil Queen that kind of threw all the notions of home out the window. She was working toward making her home here in this place but that was slow going in some respects. Sure she had a place to live and work, one conveniently over the other, but that didn't make it home. She hadn't even tried to make new friends; it seemed pointless when she might be sent somewhere else at a moment's notice, who knew right?
When she had time on her hands she started thinking about things like that, which meant when she realized it she had to keep busy. Virginia shook off her thoughts and grabbed her jacket and keys. She could do some shopping for the café, it needed a few things and there were new recipes she wanted to try. That would keep her busy; occupy her thoughts until she got back on track. Plus expanding the menu was a good idea, maybe lamb. She grinned at the idea.
Dad was gone, Wolf was gone, everything was gone or more rightly she was gone from all of them and she needed to find a way to deal with it. As always it came back to cooking, at least her personal therapy also paid the bills.
